Don't know what the hype about this place is -- I felt like I was transported back to the mid-1970s (and not in a good way), with my lunch sandwich primarily consisting of lettuce and little shaved turkey, and too salty onion soup, and an atmosphere of a nursing home cafeteria. The Morris Inn is located in the worst of spots for any restaurants, so they've got you captive, unfortunately

Love, love, love Sorin's. This is in the Morris Inn on Notre Dame's campus. The interior has been completely redone and looks great. I heard that it used to have a dark, rich wood interior so I am kind of sad that it changed. That being said, I am sure this new interior will appeal to more people. We started the meal off with some wine. ND graduates will appreciate that all the wine is sourced from ND alumni wineries. The sauvignon blanc was wonderful and we prepared for the main course. I ordered my standard filet mignon (medium) with a lemon butter sauce. It came perfectly on a bed of mashed potatoes and small carrots. The steak was cooked as ordered and the sauce accented the naturally delicious meat flawlessly. The carrots were cooked, but not mushy. The potatoes were flavored as they should be without being overly salted or too much butter. Dessert was ordered and enjoyed later. A nutella chocolate cake creation. So good when enjoyed later with a glass of red wine. I loved eating here and wished I had time to sit outside and enjoy the view. Will definitely come back the next time I am in town.

Really great lunch experience for a group of 22! Beautiful location with very attentive wait staff. I literally had the best grilled chicken I've ever had! It was juicy and so flavorful! We also got to eat near Taylor Swift! What a cool place!

Sorin's is a great dinner spot located in the Morris Inn hotel on the Notre Dame Campus, and I can honestly say that this is some of the best food I've had in a while. I was here for work, and was able to sample a full 4 course meal, and I cannot rave enough about each dish I had. I'm a seafood man, and as such, I went right for the scallops and swordfish with my co-worker. The scallops were moist and succulent, and the swordfish came right apart and was so flavorful! The winter squash soup was delightful, and the entire table pillaged every last scrape of fried brussell sprouts. The two people that ordered steaks said that they were cooked a bit more than they ordered, but were quite good otherwise. The desserts? Pretty darn good. While the main course stole the show, the apple cheesecake was a close contender. When we came in for breakfast, I had a bagel and lox, which doesn't really require much cooking, and was fine, however, my coworkers that ordered egg dishes were not terribly impressed after the night before's smash hit. While they said it wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special. If you're coming in for a stay at the hotel, definitely make it a point to grab dinner here. I have been craving it since I left!

Staying at the Morris Inn, I had the opportunity to have both dinner and breakfast at Sorin's. It is a beautiful restaurant, filled with light during the day from the wall of windows. The decor is conservative, but you don't feel any less impressed. Service was fantastic; the hostess polite, the servers accommodating and attentive. Dinner was absolutely delicious. I was able to try the brussel sprouts and shrimp as starters, both of which are excellent. Think you don't like brussel sprouts? I will 100% guarantee you like these. No joke. I ordered the scallops, and tried a friend's swordfish. They do seafood right at Sorin's. Cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, in my mouth perfectly. Some dining companions did feel that the steaks were overcooked though. For dessert, I had the tasting trio of cheesecake, chocolate cake, and a profiterole. It was hard not to shove them in my mouth in an unseemly manner. While all three were great, the cheesecake was the star. Breakfast was a nice quiet affair, but I was overall unimpressed with the food. The house potatoes were bland and either overcooked or undercooked. My omelet was also pretty boring. I almost want to call and ask what brand of coffee they serve because that was 5 stars for sure. I don't know what restaurants South Bend has to offer, but I doubt that you will go wrong if you stay on property and eat here. It was a pleasant experience.

Ate breakfast here with my parents. The service was awesome but the food was good to mediocre. Creme brûlée oatmeal sounded a lot better than it tasted and the eggs Benedict weren't very hot...as if they sat out a bit before being served. Everyone else in my group enjoyed their meals though.

I dined at Sorin's for breakfast after a delayed flight and no sleep, so part of my rating could be because I was extremely tired and being extra nit-picky. I ordered the president's breakfast- scrambled eggs with bell peppers and onion, side of wheat toast, turkey ham, and I subbed fruit for my potatoes- which they charged me for. My eggs were really oily and the pepper and onion ratio to the amount of eggs was too much. The service was okay, but a little slow considering there was no one in the restaurant. I think the prices are pretty typical for a hotel restaurant and the menu selections are as well. Pretty small menu and not wide range of options. I think if you can, you should try to find another breakfast restaurant if you stay at Morris Inn.

The old setting was torn down (it was SO dreary.) The new one, disappointingly, is not all that different. (Neo-dreary?) It is certainly brighter (which is not difficult, as it was dark and stuffy before), but has that same sleepy oppressiveness. One reviewer referred to the old location as 1970s (that is spot on!)...so now I think Sorin's has made it to the 1980s. The food matches this - it is fairly decent quality "fancy" food (imagine going to a family wedding, still in the 1980s. For my taste, it's fancy but just not fun - though they do try.

Excellent. The dishes are imaginative, carefully prepared, and portioned perfectly. I only wish I had an opportunity to sample more of the wine selection.

The Morris Inn's restaurant and bar Sorin's was a pleasant place for drinks and dessert. I moderately enjoyed the glass of Crianza Tempranillo by Martin Codax. However, it was served a bit too chilled to pick up on the "full-Bodied" structure, or the notes of "Cherry, Blackberry and Coconut". Also, the waitress' knowledge of wine was embarrassingly lacking, and she didn't even attempt to fake it. I should have gone straight for the beer. I later ordered a glass of Irish red lager, because I was at Notre Dame and I could not in good conscience leave without having ordered a beer. Unfortunately, some members of the group were under twenty one, and it was a pain to have to reorganize the restaurant's furniture in the overly-lit entryway portion of the restaurant. I thought the rule was a tad on the absurd side, but I was forced to comply, as Notre Dame in February is covered with two feet of snow, and it wasn't worth my safety to relocate to a more accommodating bar in South Bend. Perhaps it is my romanticized, Lord of the Rings-tainted view of Irish bars, but I was hoping for more of a dark, brooding, and cozy environment to enjoy an Irish beer. After all, aren't I in Notre Dame, the most Catholic, Irish place in the United States? I suppose my impression was colored by the unique experience I had in Old Town Alexandria's Bilbo Baggins bar. Atmosphere aside, the caramel creme dessert my friend ordered was quite tasty. The service was pretty bad, as two of the ladies of the table had to summon a waiter an hour into the drinks to get a glass of water. All in all, if there is another snopacolypse during my next visit to Notre Dame, I will skip the wine and go straight for the Irish lager.

pricey, but real good. i have only had the brunch here and i loved it. also - if you run out of keurig cups in your room at the morris, they will give you nice sized to-go coffee in the morning (free of charge).

This is located on the notre dame campus located in the Morris inn. Every time I have eaten here the food is exceptional. Whether it is a simple hamburger to gourmet eggs Benedict the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend. The service staff is very friendly. Make sure to stop by leahy's and have a after dinner drink and say "hi" to murf.

Both lunches and dinners are very good here. Very attentive servers and good food, whether I've had fish or steak. Eaten here maybe 20 times.

My experience derives from business lunches mostly. I've had perhaps a dozen meals here and never been disappointed. The soups and salads are always spot and and seasonal. Fish specials, stews, risotto, grilled meats, I've never known the place to serve mediocre chow. And while I don't order those big entree salads with meats (like Thai salad or the like), my companions have always loved those. This is one of the most reliable, if staid, places in the area.

I had occasion to come for breakfast with an older friend who was visiting for the weekend. I had talked him into trying Rohr's with me, and he really enjoyed that. I am a chef, so I can usually get him to relax and trust me. I cannot remember the last time I was so thoroughly disappointed in a meal. I get better food for much cheaper at Jim's Diner, or Tom and Lynn's Kitchenette on Michigan. I ordered bagel and lox, my absolute favourite breakfast and basted eggs. The lox themselves were fresh and generous portion. However, the " bagel" was little more than cheap, tasteless white bread, with a hole in it. it was not toasted. There was the tiniest swipe of cream cheese..it resembled mayonnaise. It did not come with red onion, capers, or lemon. I had to ask, and they did not have capers. It came with "breakfast potates" a bag of frozen 1/2" cubed potatoes that are deep fried. I was expecting perfectly wonderful crispy home fries, or hash browns, and got those. I had ordered basted eggs, and I was shocked to realise that they were not basted in butter, but ratter steamed in water. If I wanted poached eggs, I would have ordered those. They were cold and flavorless--they could have salted the water at least, if they could not spring for a little butter. My friend had a ham and cheese omelet, the same breakfast potatoes, and English Muffins. The omelet was tepid, and very basic; he also hated the potatoes and did not eat them. The English Muffin was made of the same flavorless white bread as the bagel, and it was barely toasted. Such a shame, as the service was spot on, and the room, was quiet and pretty. I understand that many patrons object to the room, finding it dated. Perhaps it is my European training, but I love the room. I was thrilled to see that they had retained the lovely murals I remembered when I was in college. I really liked the soft yellow gold on the walls. This is Notre Dame, not a trendy hotel bar in Soho. I am a huge fan of Rohr's, except it is a little loud...I just take my drinks and snacks to the lobby. I am fond of dinner at Sorins. I was very disappointed in my breakfast for any price, and for $30 it should have been MUCH better.

Just reopened after a massive renovation. Place looks great. Not ready for prime time yet after its first three weeks.. Waited 10 minutes in line for breakfast despite a reservation. Very slow service and not a football weekend. Had to ask for cream for coffee - should be on the table for breakfast. All that said the food was very good. Eggs Benedict on brioche was great. They have a workflow problem. Hopefully as they're open longer they'll get it fixed.

Apparently, the first reviewer is right. Locals don't come here much, and they are really missing one of the best restaurants in the region. We've eaten here many times over many years, and we've always had great food and good service. And it's one of the few places you can go and enjoy a quiet meal with friends and family sans telescreens making you wish you'd stayed home. PS--The Yelp map is off a bit. Sorin's is in the Morris Inn at the northernmost end of Notre Dame Avenue.

One star for being remodeled and lovely. The food was so mediocre that it was shocking. Little beets and mandarin orange pieces right out of a can, fish tasteless, desserts minuscule and average.

How can I possibly be the 1st to review Sorin's? Don't Notre Dame folks yelp? This hidden jewel is a great fine dining option in South Bend for both lunch and dinner. We go here about once a month for lunch and several times a year for dinner. Lunch is very reasonably priced and offers many options. Dinner is in line with pricing for other fine dining venues. The menu is always creative and reflects the current season. I am especially fond of their fall menu items. The service here is exceptional. For all the years we've been coming here, you always see the same wait staff. I wonder if people in South Bend are aware that Sorin's is open to the general public? I hope you try Sorin's and love it as much as we do.

Old, stodgy, drafty dining room. Superb wine list. Excellent food with intense flavor. 4 stars because it's on the ND campus, so you're sure to encounter some people with "airs" about them.

I love to go here. The food and service and atmosphere are great. I always feel like I'm someplace special, like a step back in time. Being on the ND campus is a plus and located in the Morris Inn. Had my birthday party there. It happened to be a home football game Saturday and the service and food was stellar.
